Warren Catchments Council

The Warren Catchments Council (WCC) is a community-based, not for profit organisation that coordinates natural resource management within the Warren Sub-region.

The organisation fosters community partnerships and includes representatives from the Warren community, industry groups and government agencies.

The WCC operates within an Australian-wide framework for regional natural resource management (NRM) and is one of six sub-regional groups making up the South West NRM Region of WA.

Key roles of the WCC are to:

  • work both independently and in partnership with government agencies, private industry bodies, other NRM sub-regional groups and community organisations to manage natural resources in the Warren Sub-region;
  • provide independent community input to projects and activities being carried out by government agencies, industry bodies or community organisations that may have a narrower focus than that of the WCC;
  • develop links between various organisations operating within the Warren Sub-region to maximise the benefits of WCC and others’ NRM activities;
  • advocate for sustainable NRM within the Warren Sub-region;
  • provide NRM support and advice for landholders and other community members within the Warren Sub-region; and
  • lobby local, State and Federal governments for improved NRM within the Warren Sub-region.

WCC membership is open to any people with interests in the Warren Sub-region and membership is currently made up of a committee of elected members and agency representatives (the Executive) as well as other interested members. Groups in the Warren Catchments Council network include Upper Lefroy Catchment and Wilgarup Groups and D’Entrecasteau Coastcare Group.

Warren Catchments Council is currently working on projects focusing on waterways and wetlands management, biodiversity and sustainable agriculture. These projects address threats to Natural Resource assets that have been identified by the community and recorded in the 2011-2015 Strategic Plan.
