Carbon Farming Initiative

One of the key roles of the Regional Landcare Facilitator is to communicate with landholders about the Australian Government’s Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI).

The Carbon Farming Initiative is a carbon offsets scheme being established by the Australian Government to provide new economic opportunities for farmers, forest growers and landholders while also helping the environment by reducing carbon pollution.

The Carbon Farming Initiative includes:

  • Legislation to establish a carbon crediting mechanism;
  • Fast-tracked development of methodologies for offset projects; and
  • Information and tools to help farmers and landholders benefit from carbon markets.

The Regional Landcare Facilitator will:

  • Provide farmers and other landholders with information on the CFI.
  • Act as a regional contact point for landholders seeking information about the CFI.
  • Provide feedback to the Government on landholders understanding of the CFI.

Current information in the CFI can be found on the Clean Energy Future website.

Jill Richardson, South West Region Regional Landcare Facilitator, will be receiving training on the CFI in the coming months, and opportunities will soon be available for landholders to learn more. Stay tuned!
