Exhibition Opening: Curating Connection – Art, Language & Culture
1 June, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Curating Connection showcases the work from the project of the same name which facilitated the artistic development of 20 Noongar artists, alongside immersion in language and country. These artists were invited to a weekend at Roelands Village, which included a drawing workshop with Nalda Searles, gouache painting with Lance Chadd, and a language workshop with Charmaine Councillor from the Noongar Boodjar Language Centre. The peaceful surrounds of Roelands provided the perfect location for the artists to connect with language and country, as well as to be inspired creatively. The weekend began with a set list of participants, but slowly grew into an experience that involved the community, driven by connections rather than workshops.
To celebrate the project, participants have been given the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery. This group exhibition includes drawings, clay sculptures and paintings from the weekend at Roelands, and provides a captivating insight into the workshop and the experiences of the artists involved.
Curating Connection has been sponsored and supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries, City of Bunbury, Boodja Group, Broken Wing Studio and Maker & Co. A big thank you to all those involved.
