More nitrogen from pasture legumes (Fixing nitrogen fixation)
28 February, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeNEW RSVP: Register by 5pm, Wednesday 27 Feb 2019.
Anecdotal evidence suggests legumes in high rainfall beef pastures are not nodulating or fixing nitrogen adequately. It is imperative for economic and environmental sustainability that clover-based pastures function effectively.
This event launches a project to run through 2019 that will benchmark soil constraints in high rainfall beef pastures, including issues affecting legume nodulation. Farmers can take part in this project to receive an analysis of two constrained areas on their property.
The event will feature Neil Ballard (Global Pasture Consultants), Bradley Nutt (Murdoch University), Sofie De Meyer (MALDI-ID) and Justin Mercy (CSBP) who will discuss the function and inherent problems of root nodule bacteria, herbicide residue, soil fertility and pH issues, limitations of inoculant delivery systems, CSBP inoculation trials in established pastures, pasture establishment technologies and suitable legume varieties.
The event will be held at the Nannup Recreation and Community Centre Function Room (entry adjacent to Struthers St).
Guests can arrive from 1 pm for a 1:30 start.
