Keyline Farming Field Walk

31 October, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

Free

Combine hillslopes, sodic soils, annual pastures and summer storms and what do you get? Increased risk of soil erosion.

Boyup Brook farmers Veronica Nix and Darren King have been applying Keyline Farming principles on their property to see if they can improve water infiltration and water holding capacity of their soil to reduce erosion. Their approach included Keyline ploughing and applying biofertilisers to reduce hard setting of soil surface and increase soil carbon and water holding capacity.

They will be joined by the “soil doctor” Ian Anderson who has analysed soil tests and will check soil pits and erosion progress to see whether keyline farming is doing the job (here is a link to a previous presentation from Ian).

A great chance to see some of the practical implications and outcomes of keyline farming if you are planning your own stormwater run-off or soil health strategy.
