LCC: What’s That Weed?
22 April, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
We all know what a beautiful & biodiverse hotspot we live in, so the topic of weeds is an important one.
Weeds can & do displace our native species, altering not only the diversity & interactions of the flora, but also its value for the fauna as a food source and habitat. Weeds are also a major issue for primary producers, with impacts on market access and agricultural production.
Presented by ‘weedspert’, Botanist Greg Keighery, this special 2-hour workshop & Q & A will increase your knowledge around local weed problems, & discuss best practice weed control options for dealing with them. To make the workshop really relevant for you please bring along any plant samples you want identified or are interested in finding out more about.
More About Our Presenter
Greg has has been a senior research scientist at the Science and Conservation Division of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions of Western Australia since 2003 & is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the UWA School of Biological Sciences .
On his many trips working in near and remote bushland in Western Australia Greg has, collected and preserved for history, more than with 30,000 plant specimens, and has been recognized as one of the great modern day plant collectors in the world.
Greg’s studies have focused on many native plant groups. He has named nearly 100 plants and had seven plants named for him. Another interest has been bushland weeds, being the first botanist to list the weeds of WA and, with others, write a sell-out book on the weeds of WA.
Come along and join us for this great in person knowledge building event, PLUS at the end of the presentation we’ll relax & throw some snaggers on the barbie. It will be a great chance to keep talking about this key topic, network with our presenter & local landholders who have experiences to share.
