Lower Blackwood Catchment LCDC: Autumn Feed Gap Field Walk

4 December, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Join the Lower Blackwood Catchment LCDC for a great chance to see some summer/autumn feed gap fodder varieties in action!

This Talkin’’ After Hours session is jointly hosted with the Lower South West Growers Group. This time we’ll be out and about in the field to check out the first year progress of the MLA funded ‘Filling the Autumn Feed Gap” project.

Including a proportion of summer responsive pastures in a whole farm system, can provide an opportunity to produce high quality feed out of season and potentially ease reliance on supplement feeding throughout that period.  Summer/Autumn fodder crops can also provide living-roots for your soil system throughout that typically dormant summer period, be a key component in building soil health and effectively utilize any summer rainfall.

You’ll hear presentations from the project team and host farmer, as well as Nathan Tognella from PGG Wrightson seeds who will share information about each of their varieties, including roles, benefits and management.

At the end of the walk & talk we’ll relax with a drink & some nibbles. It will be a great chance to keep talking about this key topic, network with our presenter & local landholders who have experiences to share.
