Nature Conservation Margaret River Region – Native Bees and Insect Gardens Workshop

31 October, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Learn how to create habitat for beneficial bugs and grow a beautiful, balanced garden with productive vegetables, fruits and flowers.

As well as pollination, beneficial insects provide the eco-service of biological pest control – crucial when you’re wanting to work with nature in your garden.

Join facilitator Laura Bailey of Margaret River Organic Farmer to explore companion planting for fruit and vegetable growing, as well as a range of waterwise native plants adapted to our local conditions that encourage beneficial insects.

We will then make and take home a native bee hotel for our local stingless bees.

This workshop will be held at the Margaret River Organic Garden, off Bussell Highway and adjacent to the Margaret River Farmers Market site, where Nature Conservation Margaret River Region staff will also be on-hand to answer your questions about beneficial insects and the best native, local plants to attract them.

The workshop will include an indoor theory session followed by a practical session outside in the garden.

If you cannot make it, please let us know as soon as possible so your spot can go to another gardener. Participants must wear close-toed shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and bring a hat and full water bottle. In the event of rain, this workshop will still proceed. Please also note this event is intended for adults but is also suitable for children aged 8 and over, if they are accompanied by an adult.
