New-look SWCC Board

The South West Catchments Council (SWCC) has welcomed some new and familiar faces to its Board of Directors.

At the SWCC Annual General Meeting recently, environmental consultant and SWCC Director Bill Biggs was elected Chair, while fellow Director and President of the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup, Brian Piesse, was elected Deputy President.

Mr Biggs is the Principal of Biggs & Associates Consulting Services which specialises in environmental management and process control. He has worked as a Director for the past four years and has more than thirty years of experience in environmental management in the mining and resources industry, as well as ten years of experience in the horticultural and agricultural sectors.

Mr Piesse has extensive experience in local government, strategic planning, executive management, business and market development, and education governance. He has held senior executive roles in several international chemical and fertiliser companies and is a former board member of the CRC for Soil and Land Management.

The SWCC Board, members and staff would like to thank previous Chair Christine Kershaw for her long-term contribution to SWCC (six years as a Director and two as Chair) and her many achievements over this time, including her help in steering SWCC through its recent transition.

The Board has also welcomed Dr Kathleen Broderick and Dr Andy Paterson as new Directors. Both were elected for four-year terms and their skills sets complement the existing highly experienced Directors.

Dr Broderick is Principal of Broderick & Associates and a Director of the Bibbulmun Track Foundation. She has previously served multiple terms on the Regional Development Australia Committee for Tasmania, Adult Learning Australia, and WA-based Community Arts Network (CAN). With experience in facilitation of Aboriginal NRM, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation, she is keen to contribute to SWCC’s future strategic direction as well as financial control, risk management, stakeholder engagement and communication.

Dr Paterson is Principal of Arcanum Consulting and has more than 40 years of experience delivering science, technology, innovation and industry development projects in the agri-food sector. He has held various senior positions in the WA public sector and built a strong track record in strategic and operational planning, as well as financial administration.

Congratulations to the new appointees. For a copy of the SWCC Annual Report 2017-18, see swccnrm.org.au/resources/annual-report-2/
