Cultural Connections

The Noongar people are the traditional custodians of Australia’s South West and have lived sustainably on Country for tens of thousands of years. Environmental management is strongly embedded into their law (the Dreaming), culture and traditional knowledge, and participation is key to the future management of our natural resources.

We integrate traditional and contemporary Noongar ecological knowledge and culture into the way we do NRM and partner with local communities to protect areas of cultural and environmental significance. We also bring together the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community to foster cross-cultural awareness and break down barriers to effective communication and collaboration.

This is part of our holistic approach to NRM.

Ngala kaaditj Noongar moort keyen kaadak nitja boodja.

We acknowledge the Noongar people as the traditional custodians of the land that we live and work on.
