According to the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions rabbits cost Australian farmers more than $200 million a year in lost agricultural productivity.

The Leschenault Biosecurity Group will release the RHDV1 K5 virus across 10 sites in the South West region this November as part of its rabbit control strategy.

The virus will spread through rabbit to rabbit contact as well as flies and mosquitoes.  It is expected to reduce rabbit populations across the region, making it an important time to follow up with other on-farm control strategies including baiting, shooting and warren destruction or fumigation.
